Green Tourism Silver Award

We're very proud of our Silver Award from Green Tourism

Since going independent we have had a schedule of works to make the centre as green as possible, which is no mean feet when you're talking about 12th century church!

The first step was to insulate the church windows with bespoke secondary glaze windows, we then insulated the kitchen ceiling, which is the old belfry. Once the centre was as insulated as possible the next big step was to install an airsource heatpump to change from LPG gas. So the source of heating and the hotwater came from a renewable source. The electricity consumption is kept to a minimum by installing LED lighting in the mainhall, kitchen and Ibbett Room, when the centre is not in use electrical items are switched off and temperatures lowered. This year we started on a 100% renewable electricity tariff which is made up from hydro, solar and wind power.

Recycling at the centre has been made easier by investing in signage and labelled bins. We encourage all our groups to save water where possible.

We still have steps we want to take in completing our LED lighting installation changing the hall lighting, we are phasing out single use clothes and maintaining the eco cleaning products available at the centre.

We'd love to plant some more trees at the centre and to find a compost solution.

Our thanks go out to all those who have helped us get to this point, looking forward to improving even further and getting that GOLD!
